Jocelyn Gomez 2023 Recipient of the NC Association of Agricultural Fairs Scholarship
The Sanford Lions Club is pleased to announce Jocelyn Gomez as the recipient of the 2023 Annual Fair Scholarship Program. Presented by the North Carolina Association of Agricultural Fairs, the scholarship, in the amount of $3,000, will be used to help Jocelyn with expenses as she attends Elon University. Jocelyn plans to study International Banking and become a Finance Lawyer. The object of the North Carolina Association of Agriculture Fairs is to promote interest in the Agricultural Fairs in North Carolina, to include Livestock Shows and Community Fairs.
The daughter of Gus and Susan Gomez, Jocelyn graduated from Lee Early College where she was inducted into the Early College National Honor Society and served as president this past year. Jocelyn, a leader in Lee County 4-H, was also president of the Lee County Young Commissioners and the Lee County Youth Council. She was recognized as the Young Commissioner of The Year in 2021 and the 2022 Lee County 4-H Senior Club Member of The Year. 4-H members learn and practice life skills through leadership opportunities leading them to become productive and contributing citizens.
Jocelyn has volunteered at the Lee Regional Fair for the past two years. She has worked at the ticket booths, served on the Extension Fair Advisory Board, and has been a team member in setting up educational booths at the Fair. In addition, Jocelyn parents have volunteered with the Fair by preparing, serving and taking customers’ orders for the Lions Kitchen.
The Lee Regional Fair centers around agriculture with many educational activities. Jocelyn believes “everyone goes to the Fair to have a good time and it never hurts to also learn something about agriculture”.
High school seniors who have volunteered with the Lee Regional Fair are eligible to apply for the 2024 NCAOAF scholarship. The 2023 Lee Regional Fair…”Love This Fair!” will be held September 13-17. Check out LeeRegionalFair.com for upcoming events.
